Holter Monitoring
At SHIFAA PAN African Hospitals, we prioritize the comprehensive cardiac care of our patients, offering advanced diagnostic services such as Holter monitoring to assess heart rhythm and detect irregularities effectively. Our dedicated team of cardiologists utilizes state-of-the-art technology and expertise to provide accurate assessments and guide personalized treatment plans for optimal heart health.
Test Overview:
Holter monitoring is a non-invasive diagnostic test designed to evaluate the heart’s electrical activity (ECG) continuously over an extended period, typically 24 to 48 hours or longer. This portable monitoring device, known as a Holter monitor, records the heart’s rhythm while patients go about their daily activities, providing valuable insights into cardiac function.
Indications for Holter Monitoring:
Holter monitoring may be recommended to:
- Investigate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting spells.
- Evaluate heart rhythm abnormalities, including arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats.
- Monitor the effectiveness of anti-arrhythmic medications or interventions.
Procedure:
During the Holter monitoring procedure, patients are fitted with a small Holter monitor, which is connected to electrodes placed on the chest. These electrodes continuously record the heart’s electrical signals, capturing data during various activities and sleep cycles. Patients are encouraged to maintain a diary of symptoms and activities to correlate with the recorded ECG findings.
Interpretation and results:
The recorded ECG data collected during the monitoring period are analyzed by our experienced cardiologists, who interpret the results to identify any abnormalities in heart rhythm or conduction. Holter monitoring helps detect arrhythmias, assess their frequency and duration, and guide appropriate treatment strategies. Abnormal findings may indicate underlying heart conditions requiring further evaluation and management.
